Comments

Most South African ostriches descend from captive stock, grown for the feather trade, by interbreeding  S.c. australis with S.c. camelus and  the now extinct S.c. syriacus. The only genuine wild common ostrich in s Africa, S. camelus australis, occurs in northern Namibia and the Kalahari.
